Herbs refer to the leaves of plants (such as thyme, sage, oregano, bay leaves, mint and rosemary) and have varying degrees of flavour intensity, however not as dramatic as spices.
Spices are buds, barks, roots, berries and arromatic seeds. Spice flavours have five groups; sweet, pungent, tangy, hot and amalamating (mix).
Flowers used in herb beverages take the form of plant petals or blossoms.
Herbalists and Naturopaths through the ages know of the theraputic benefits of herbs when treating common ailments including stress, skin disorders, colds and flu, allergies, headaches, respiratory and circulatory problems, digestive disorders and hormonal imbalances.
Natural remedy therapists understand how specific herbs target specific body parts; for example chamomile helps to heal disorders of the nervous system, while ginger works on the circulatory and cardiovascular systems. Others, such as lavender and peppermint, work together to create a more pronounced healing effect. This "working together" is called synergism and is the basis of herbal therapy.
If you have a particular ailment or are are interested in understanding how you may benefit from taking herbs we strongly recommend you should first seek advise and be guided by an experienced natural therapist or medical practioner.
The healing effect of herbs is attractive to many tea and coffee customers, especially those trying to ween themselves off caffeine.
While peppermint, chamomile and lemongrass have a theraputic effect on the body and make delicious herb drinks, many customers comment that some herbs are bland or even bitter when taken alone. Creating an herb infusion is the art of the Herbal Therapist.
Our qualified Herbal Therapist has produced a range of herb blends that are therapeutic, flavoursome and promote wellbeing. They are not designed for medicinal purpose. Check first with your therapist or practicioner if you are seeking treatment for an ailment.
